In Class 4, we learned that the US ranked 29th in worldwide infant mortality, according to peer-reviewed medical journal Pediatrics, Jan. 2011, as stated in the Student Workbook.
Here is another news report, stating that the World Health Organization (WHO) ranks the U.S. 41st in the world.
Keep in mind that just because you give birth in a technologically advanced hospital and/or may be offered an intervention during pregnancy or labor, doesn't mean you can afford to make decisions blindly especially with regard to the health and safety of your child.
